Participant Information

Introduction

Move Well Eat Well (MWEW) is a Tasmanian government initiative that has supported the healthy development of children and young people since 2009. The program promotes healthy eating and physical activity as a positive part of every day. It is a free program for primary schools, long day care services and child and family learning centres across Tasmania.

MWEW is currently undertaking a Refresh. The aim of the Refresh is to update and improve our program to better meet the nutrition and physical activity needs of Tasmanian schools and services. We are seeking input from primary schools and early childhood services to assist us.

In this document you will find information about participating in MWEW’s Refresh Consultations.

If you have any questions, please send us an email.

Invitation

MWEW invite you to contribute your insights and experiences to our program Refresh. Your participation is important to us and will help us to better understand the nutrition and physical activity needs of primary schools and early childhood services in Tasmania.

Opportunities to participate in MWEW’s Refresh are open to current staff of Tasmanian primary schools, early childhood services and Child and Family Learning Centres. Your school/service does not need to be a member of MWEW to participate.

Refresh opportunities for participants will be available face-to-face and/or online between February and June 2024. We welcome Family Day Care and Outside School Hour Care services to participate along with other early childhood services.

Please click on the downward arrows to find answers to our FAQs and more information on each opportunity.

Why have I been invited to participate?

We are inviting staff who currently work in Tasmanian primary schools and early childhood settings to contribute their experience and insights to the MWEW Refresh.

This is a unique opportunity to share your ideas and contribute to the future direction of the program. We value your experience and invite you to join us to re-imagine what MWEW can be and how we can best meet the nutrition and physical activity needs of Tasmanian schools and services.

We are seeking a range of perspectives and experiences and encourage all staff to participate.

What will I be asked to do?

You will be asked to share your ideas and experiences about nutrition and physical activity in primary schools and early childhood settings in Tasmania. There are various ways you can be involved, including our Snapshot survey, an interview at your school or service, a group workshop, and an online questionnaire.

Your participation is voluntary, and you can choose to participate in as many Refresh opportunities as you would like.

Your participation will not affect the relationship you may have with the current or future MWEW program.

You are free to withdraw from any Refresh consultation activities at any time.

  • The survey is open to current staff of primary schools and early childhood services in Tasmania.

  • We are offering 25 x $50 Modern Teaching Aids vouchers for primary schools and 25 x $50 Modern Teaching Aids vouchers for early childhood services*.
  • If you choose to enter the draw for one of the vouchers for your school or service, you will be asked to provide your name, the name of your school/service and contact details. Your details will only be used for the purpose of distributing the voucher.

Opportunity 2: Interviews/Conversations (April - June, 2024)

The purpose of the Refresh interviews/conversations is for us to gain a more in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities for schools and services in nutrition and physical activity. We hope to learn more about your experience in your setting and what is important to you.

  • Conversation participants will be recruited by registering an Expression of Interest (EoI) via the Snapshot survey, MWEW website or by contacting MWEW directly by email or phone.
  • Participants will be contacted by MWEW after the EoI process closes at the end of March 2024 to arrange scheduling for April/May.
  • Participants will be provided with a Consent form to sign and return via email before the agreed interview date.
  • Conversations will be conducted by two MWEW staff members, either face-to-face at the participant’s school/service, or online via Microsoft Teams for approx. 30-45 minutes.
  • Up to four people from one school/service may attend the conversation.
  • Face-to-face conversations will be audio-recorded and transcribed by MWEW for analysis purposes. Online conversations will be audio-visually recorded via Teams. This information will only be used to assist with program evaluation and not shared with any external parties.
  • All identifying information provided by participants during interview will be de-identified by MWEW for analysis. The de-identified information will not be kept after it has been incorporated into our evaluation.
  • We will provide 1 x $50 Modern Teaching Aids voucher to the participant or participant group for their school or service at the interview*.
  • Please note, due to resourcing Family Day Care and Outside Hours School Care services interviews will be conducted in July-December 2024.
  • *Information on the Modern Teaching Aids interview voucher is listed in the dropdown box below.

Opportunity 3: Collaborative Workshops (May - June 2024)

The Refresh collaborative workshops are an opportunity for sector leaders and interested staff to come together and share ideas about the future MWEW. The workshops will be group discussions about how we can best support nutrition and physical activity in schools and services.

  • Workshop participants will be recruited by registering an Expression of Interest (EoI) via the Snapshot survey, MWEW website and communications, or by contacting MWEW by email or phone.
  • Participants will be contacted after the EoI process to arrange registration. Workshop registration will be available via the MWEW website from 3 April, 2024. Consent information will be provided as part of registration.
  • All participants are eligible to request a one-off, part-day teaching relief payment to assist their participation. Payment will be arranged by MWEW and the Department of Health.
  • Workshop schedules will be organised regionally with at least one face-to-face workshop conducted in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart. Additional online workshops may be organised depending on interest.
  • Workshops will be conducted at a suitable host venue in each region and travel may be required. Please note, travel arrangements and costs are the responsibility of participants.
  • Workshops will be conducted by MWEW staff members and will run for approx. 90 minutes.
  • Workshops may involve up to 30 participants from different primary school and early childhood settings. Up to two people per school or service are welcome to attend.
  • Refreshments will be provided at the face-to-face workshops.
  • Face-to-face workshops will be audio-recorded and transcribed by MWEW for analysis purposes. Online workshops will be audio-visually recorded via Teams. This information will only be used to assist with program evaluation and not shared with any external parties.
  • All identifying information provided by participants during workshops will be de-identified by MWEW for analysis. The de-identified information will not be kept after it has been incorporated into our evaluation.

An online questionnaire will be available for staff who wish to participate in the Refresh and are either unable to attend other opportunities or would prefer to participate in their own time.

  • The online questionnaire will be available on Survey Monkey from Term 2, May 2024.
  • MWEW’s Survey Monkey account is secure and password protected. User information can only be accessed by our team.
  • Staff from Tasmanian primary schools and early childhood services are eligible.
  • Participants will be required to provide their contact details/organisation name to verify their eligibility.

  • The questionnaire will take between 5-15 minutes depending on your answers.
  • Consent and confidentiality information will be provided with the questionnaire.
