A Tasmanian Government and Community Partnership
More than 300 people attended a Discovery Day for people of all ages and abilities at Mt Field National Park on 14 January.
Through the Healthy Parks Healthy People Program, a partnership between Healthy Tasmania and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS), visitors enjoyed a range of activities and information sessions, including a concert with nature-inspired music by the Australian-Canadian folk band, the Belle Miners.
This event was the last of a series of monthly Healthy Parks Healthy People events encouraging all Tasmanians to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature.
PWS worked with National Disability Services Tasmania to reach out to this community sector. Montague Community Living, Oakdale Lodge (Li-VE Tasmania) and the Zone Day Support (Li-VE Tasmania) signed up and around 85 people from the services attended the event.
The day also included a barbeque lunch, extra facilities to increase accessibility, and additional PWS Discovery Rangers. Crowds enjoyed exploring the wheelchair-accessible track to Russell Falls.
Belle Miners invited visitors to join in on a song-writing workshop to create a verse for a new song ‘Song for the Wilderness’.
